Well, just to let you know, it should work.  When I had a IIGS set up in
my home network, I did print to my LW IIg (on ethernet) from my GS, 
including both GS/OS programs and Appleworks (after downloading the
Imagewriter emulator).  My routing between the ethernet and the localtalk
was done via a Shiva (Kinetics) Fastpath 4 router.

I never had an error come up so I can't help you on that part...
