I don't know much about PCs but maybe my setup here will still have some
relevance or give you some ideas.
I have a Mac G3 and no serial port to AppleTalk the G3 to my Apple IIs.
So I set up an old Mac as a server. I have the G3 hooked up to the old Mac
via ethernet and the Apple IIs via serial. Using LocalTalk bridge I can use
both ethernet and the serial port at the same time for AppleTalk. Now the
Apple IIs can not only access the old Macs hard drive but LocalTalk bridge
lets them see through the old Mac and access the G3s hard drive.
