Apple //e Power Supplies

Does anyone know if there are any differences between the power
supplies in the early and later models of the Apple //e ?

The later model //e's (Platinum) have a longer, silver-colored power
supply (similar to the one in the IIgs) whereas the earlier //e's have
a gold-colored one.  From what I've observed, the silver-colored power
supplies seem to fail more frequently than the older ones.  Has anyone
else noticed this ?
