Please note my suggestion in another thread that you may want to try
_copying_ a known good (readible on the IIgs) original CD-ROM to the
CD-R media you're using using something like Adaptec's CD Copier
Deluxe program. If that disk is not readible, there may be a
(hardware-based) compatibility issue between the CDSC and the CD-R
media you're using. Different media may or may not help, but it may
save you hours of getting the Linux system to work only to discover
the IIgs _software_ (having trouble with the disk's logical format)
isn't the problem.
That being said, checking the Linux CD-ROM How-To at:
http://www.linuxdoc.org/HOWTO/CDROM-HOWTO-6.html#ss6.7
This is the comment regarding CD-recordable support:
[begin clip]
6.7 Does Linux support any recordable CD-ROM drives?
The X-CD-Roast package for Linux is a graphical front-end for using CD
writers. The package can be found at metalab.unc.edu in
/pub/Linux/utils/disk-management/xcdroast-0.95.tar.gz
Also see the Linux CD-Writing HOWTO document, found at
ftp://metalab.unc.edu/pub/Linux/docs/HOWTO/CD-Writing-HOWTO or
http://metalab.unc.edu/LDP/HOWTO/CD-Writing-HOWTO.html.

Best of luck (or skill, if you prefer :).
