Well, I'm not a Windows user, but I ran into a similar problem a while
ago when trying to run Wizardry under emulation on my Mac.
When running Wizardry I for the Apple II on my Mac, I write-protected
the floppy disk images by simply selecting the "locked" option for
each disk image file. Perhaps Windows has a similar option when you
right-click on the disk image and select "properties" from the menu
that pops up? Look for a checkbox with "read only" next to it or
something similar.
