I appreciate your help.  I checked out Eternal Dagger, and it was not the
game I had in mind.

If I remember correctly, the game was laid out as follows.  There was a 
single game screen that was a landscape from a top-down point of view (like 
a map).  In the upper left corner was the Necromancers castle.  You start in
the lower right corner, and travel the map, stopping in villages, ruins, 
and castles, gathering money and men for your army.

When you fought monsters, it might be like 30 men to 10 Rocs (or something)...
each round, you lost some men, the the enemy lost some number, and last man
standing won.

There was also something about a hidden oracle, that would blink on the screen
for a little, and then turn invisible, and you had to exactly find the 
entrance to get in it.

Does this sound familiar to anyone else?  Please let me know if you know what
I'm talking about.
