First, are you sure they are .shk files? Most of the files on Asimov are
.gz 'gzip' compressed files or .zip files. Many of these have file names with
more than one period (e.g. narf.dsk.gz) and these names sometimes get snipped
so that the ".gz", etc. disappears from the file name as downloaded.

If the files are .shk files, try downloading to an hfs volume on your Mac
and do the transfer from there-- i.e. avoid downloading/moving the files to a
Mac ProDOS volume. (If you are using ProDOS diskettes to move the files, you
may be getting stuff to which the Mac has added a Resource Fork. You might give
UnforkIt a shot at the files on your IIgs. See
http://home.swbell.net/rubywand/Csa2FLUTILS.html .)

If the files are actually .shk.gz files, the best place to handle the
un-gzipping is on your PC or Mac using WinZIP or an equivalent utility:

On a Mac, you can use MacGzip to unZIP g-zipped (.gz) DSK files into
uncompressed form. Another choice (for doing the same job as WinZIP on a PC) is
Aladdin's StuffIt Expander and the DropStuff Expander Pack. These utilities
can be found on many Macintosh related ftp sites.
