Thank You RubyWand & All !!!!

Hi RubyWand & People in General ;-)

Just wanted to say thanks to all who have answered my posts, and especially
to you rubywand.
As you all know, I've been having some grief with my //GS especilially in
the area of the ZipGS upgrade.
Rubywand - you touched on the power supply issue (whether there was enough
voltage etc). While this was not the
case for the -14 chip not working it did get me to thinking.....

My //GS is running;

Second Sight Card
ZipGsx @ 7Mhz (soon to be much, much more!)
High Speed SCSI Card
GS-Ram Plus (6 Megs)

I have been having a lot of intermittant crashes. I thought there was
something wrong with the Second Sight card as it
would crap out a lot. Also, the hard drives would sometimes not show up when
GS/OS started and the system would lock.

Due to RubyWand's reccomendation about the power supply leads - I got to
thinking (a first, I know ;-) It caused me to look
at the FAQ on Power issues and I noted someone wrote in about a Second Sight
card etc.

So, I went down to the auto parts store and picked up some 12 guage wire and
connectors and did the PS mod. I managed to get
everything back together without busting anything (thank you Lord!) and ran
the system......

It was WAY faster!! I'm not kidding. It's considerably faster and there are
ZERO glitches and crashes. I've been repeatedly doing the same
operations I did before that caused crashes and it just isn't happening. My
//GS now seems to be on steroids!! I can't wait until my new WDC -14
chip comes in so that I can crank that sucker to the moon!

So anyway, I just wanted to thank everyone for the continued help. I was
getting worried that all the crashes were because the computer is old or
maybe
the Second Sight card was dying. Such is NOT the case. It's rock-solid now.

Couple more questions.....

My system is a Rom 03 model and now has the monster 12 guage wires on the
PS. I am not planning on adding any more cards...
Shoud I do anything else to make the PS even better or would it likely be a
waste of time? My understanding was that the ROM 03 models
had some better power features built-in. I am using a Kensington System
Saver that keeps everything very cool.

I am planning on burning a CD for the system using that ISO format (I forget
which one). The files to be burned have very long file names. They are
Apple -OK provided you use the HFS file system. Is there any issues I should
worry about given this scenario?

Thanks again everyone, and especially RubyWand for the info and the great
FAQ's !!
Best;
Marvin Miller
