There was a technology called Cauzin "softstrips" which were a high-
density bar-code that could be printed and placed in magazines.
I know that Byte ( and I think Dr. Dobbs ) each had some
experimental issues which contained some of their source in this
barcode.
I don't know if the technology was too expensive or too unstable,
but it didn't seem to take off.
