There was a Emulator Card called the ALF 8088. The company was from
Denver, and they both speeded up an Apple II plus, and there were was a way
to run the 8088 as a computer, which we did not use.... it didn't have a
DOS.
We used it when we complied Applesoft using a "call" to the board, which
gave a 25% speedup, and more importantly, a unique serial number in each ALF
Card
which protected my $900/month subscription from pirates. I still have some
of these, as well as a running Genie 5+5 drive.
