Here's a question for you hardware people. I've got a 3Com Impact IQ
external ISDN modem, which uses an RS-232 serial port, NOT an RJ-45 jack, to
connect to a computer. Now, since Marinetti/SLiRP can fake PPP and the IIgs
serial port can do 115.2Kbps (if I remember all that right), is there any
reason I couldn't start using ISDN with my IIgs?
And, well, if I can't, it was a neat thought.
The only hardware issue I see that might be problematic is SPID
configuration. Not knowing anything at all about the particulars of ISDN, I
don't know if that's critical or not. SPIDs seem to me to only affect the
telephone numbers belonging to the phone ports of the modem.
If that's what's standing in the way, my 3Com OfficeConnect ISDN LAN Modem
(which does use RJ-45 connectors) has the SPID wizard built into its
firmware, at http://192.168.1.1. Seems like an ISDN modem with
sophisticated built-in firmware like that and an RS-232 connector on it
would work.
Ideas?
You can see a picture of the Impact IQ's ports here:
