As one who also thinks hardware stuff is boring, mainly because its over my
head and I do not really want to learn, I think the man who said this did not
mean to put any one down.  It's more in line of friendly teasing or a joke.

You hardware people are like lawyers.  We find you annoying until we need you. 
Then we will find you fascinating, exciting, enjoyable, helpful, courteous
kind.  (Well worth the money, well in the case of lawyers - almost.)

When someone else asks a hardware question its boring, but when six months
later I ask the same question, it is very interesting, especially the answer,
hopefully I will understand the answer.  ;-)
