Okay; so you mean games that you really 'get into' and so you feel kind of
depressed when the adventure is concluded.

Realms of Darkness, Tangled Tales, Enchanter, Sorcerer, Wishbringer, Magic
Candle, Shadowkeep, and Dragon Wars were like that. So were Bard's Tale I and
II (for IIgs), Dungeon Master, Eternal Dagger, Keef the Thief, Ultima III, Pool
of Radiance, Curse of the Azure Bonds, and Champions of Krynn. (I have not
finished Dark Heart' yet.)

The thing is that you get so totally immersed in some adventures-- like
you have maps, all sorts of notes, and individual chracter listings showing
possessions, skills, etc. and know you way around in the world. The longer the
game and the more involved the scenario and the more neat, clever, deadly,
glorious experiences you have, the bigger the 'shock' of actually winning.

Another factor is sound and graphics. You can get wrapped up in a pure
Text adventure; but, it's much easier to get sucked into a very good adventure
which also features music, sound effects, and good graphics. Bard's Tale I/gs
is a good example. Dungeon Master is another (except for the absence of music).

Among PC games, you have Might & Magic III, World of Xeen, Planet's Edge,
Eye of the Beholder II, The Summoning, Star Trail, Stone Prophet, Menzoberazan,
Pools of Darkness, Wizardry VII, Dark Sun: Wake of the Ravager, and Ultima
Underworld I-II.
