I was always told that only the //c's keyboard could be DVORAK, but I came
across the following in the _Apple Thesaurus_ by Aaron Filler. Published in
1984, it covers the ][, ][+, //e and //c. Could this apply to the IIgs as
well? I'm much faster on the //c typing on the DVORAK keyboad and I'd love to
use it on the //e and maybe even the IIgs.
Jay Edwards
pg. 135 "... interested //e and //c owners should be happy to learn that
their machines have an optional Dvorak mode."
"The //e and //c have a separate 2K ROM chip (see Figure 8.3) which receives
the AY-3600 output codes and treats them as part of a ROM address. ... Another
interesting aspect is that it can respond as if the keyboard were in a Dvorak
layout rather than a QWERTY layout.
pg. 136 "Figure 8.3a: The //e keyboard ROM permits reassignment of keys
after decoding by the AY-3600."
