Apple IIGS software compatability problem

I hope someone can help me. To make a long story short I had a IIC get
ruined in the rain in storage and I was stuck with 200 games with
nothing to play them on! So I recently bought a IIGS on Ebay. I got it
the other day and tried some of my games on it and noticed that most of
them ran unusually fast (like pressing fast-forward search on a VCR).
Most of them are unplayable at this speed. Of course the type-in
adventures work great but want I want to know is this: am I doomed to
not be able to play most of my pre-IIGS games, or is there something I
can do to slow it down? I know the IIGS has more memory than the IIC and
IIE but I always thought ALL earlier software would be compatable with
it. I was always so competent with earlier Apple computers but dealing
with my IIGS I feel like I'm starting over. Please somebody tell me it's
something really easy to fix, OK?! As far as I know it is a standard
IIGS with no additional installed cards of any kind. Any help anyone can
give me will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Sincerely,

Dave Cramer
