     Most likely, your main problem is that you are getting ASCII with the high
bit set. If your Win program strips off the high bit (e.g. does an AND $7F for
each received character) the stuff you get will probably look better. 

     Something else to check is that you are using the correct output and cable
setup. Setting the Apple II serial printer output for modem and using a NULL
modem connection to the PC will work. I have not tried other setups.

     Of course, for regular serial Text transfers, the Apple II and PC (COM
port) baud rate settings need to be the same.

     A good way to experiment is to use Appleworks on the Apple II (to print
the Text) and Hyperterm on the PC to "Capture Text". Hyperterm lets you set up
your interface (under File-->Properties) to force 7-bit ASCII and make other
adjustments (e.g. "Append line feeds to incoming line enders") which will help
get nice looking Text on the PC.
