Re: Renewed PEACE and HARMONY to the **Apple II** Community

I see that you've changed your email address, QC. You don't like
"anonymous" anymore? Does your email reply address work now?

When you're the MIS of a company with multiple T1 lines, maybe you won't
have to pay for a simple, private, FTP server running at evening hours
either. That's an idea that I've been thinking about -hosting the FTP server
on my own hardware, through my office during non peak hours. It wouldn't be
completely open to the public, or open 24/7 but like you said, the archives
would be back up. Then, if anyone complained, they would be complaining to
me, and of course, I would look into it and get back to them, someday.

You're right. No one could get into it without contacting me, one of the
other admins first but that is the point. It would be at least somewhat
safer from people like you than it would be on a host like xoom. They don't
have time to "look into it" so they just shut it down. It only takes one
formal complaint, as I'm sure you know.

Yes but like I said, if I host it, or someone else in the same situation
hosts it, then we can protect it some from people like you. User accounts
can be set to expire, or address' blocked... like yours. I could even set it
up so that a single user get's a scheduled time to download whatever they
want, any time during the day or night, when they schedule it through me. I
would only need a day's notice, and if the time is open, then I assign them
a temporary user account. It would take five minutes a day in admin time,
and there would be plenty of bandwidth. There are lots of options that could
work, and it wouldn't be much work to admin once it's set up. The best way
would be to have it like it used to be but since there are still a few
people like you out there, there aren't many other options for an FTP site
like Asimov or Tarnover.

It's almost funny that YOU would comment on vulgar language. I know, you
have to take your pot shots where you can find them but coming from you... I
guess I expected less.
