Quite correct. Half of the fun is finding a nugget of gold (like a SCSI card
or Vulcan) in a pile of junk you got free or paid $5 for.  But if you really
want something and can't find it yourself, why not buy it? For myself,
considering how little I've spent on all these toys, it's no big deal to
fork over $50 for something like a memory board I "need".
I went to an airshow with my wife yesterday, and after looking at all those
labors of love, I told my wife "See, my hobby is a LOT cheaper than theirs!"
