IEEE-488 aka GPIB (general purpose interface bus) aka HPIB (Hewlett-Packard
interface bus)

It's an interface used for connecting computers to scientific instruments,
data acquisition, laboratory equipment etc. You can connect multiple devices
to the bus but normally only one computer. The only thing I've seen which
had a GPIB connection was an HP plotter.
