     Shrink.exe (size= 71936 bytes) is a good place to start. It will get you
8-bit ShrinkIt. This will allow unshrinking lots of useful .shk (file
archive) files as well as 5.25" and 3.5" whole-disk archives (usually
designated as ".sdk" files).

     It sounds like you are running with just enough memory to get System
6.0.1 going.

     You can click on the Apple symbol on the Finder (desktop display) menu
bar and select "About This Apple IIgs".

     Yes. You can create a folder named, say, "MiscCDevs" in your boot drive
main directory. Move all of the files in the System/CDevs/ folder to the
MiscCDevs/ folder.

     Create a folder named "MiscDeskAccs" in your boot drive main directory.
Move all of the files in System/Desk.Accs/ to the MiscDeskAccs/ folder.

     Create a folder named "MiscFSTS" in your boot drive main directory. In
the System/FSTS/ folder, leave the Pro.FST, Char.FST, and HFS.FST files
alone; move any other FST files to the MiscFSTS/ folder. (If you do not need
to access HFS disks created by the Mac, you can move the HFS.FST file, too.)

     After the files are moved, do a shutdown and restart-- on the menu bar,
click on Special and select "Restart".  You should have more memory
available.

     A ROM-01 IIgs with 1MB is not going to have much memory available after
starting System 6.0.1. (Think you might be able to get close to about 300k or
so with a pretty bare bones Sys6.)  The solution is to get a 4MB (or 8MB)
Expansion Memory board.
