I'm experiencing difficulty getting my IIE to write from my 5 1/4"
floppy drive to my 3 1/2" drive. I've tried
everything I can think of to resolve this problem, but nothing has
worked. The IIE has a dual drive 5 1/4" floppy drive card and will
write from one 5 1/4 drive to another without difficulty. It will
even write to the IIE ram in slot 7, yet, continually, I receive an
I/O error when I try to copy files from my 5 1/4" drive to my 3 1/2"
drive. The IIE can catalog and read the 3 1/2" drive, but it will
not copy files to or from it.
I've tried a couple of different systems with the same result.
Initially I was using an LCIII with a IIE card. The manual states
that the 3 1/2" drive should plug directly into the Apple IIE card
and that the 5 1/4" drive may then be daisy chained off of it. This
configuration was not successful, yet no matter what way I configured
the drives, the IIE card did not allow the 5 1/4" drive to write to
the 3 1/2" drive, though as I said, it could read the files on the 3
1/2" drive and recognized the volume in the volume catalog.
I then located a IIE and tried this process again with the same
result. Every other function works properly. I can convert the DOS
files to PRO DOS, and can print the data as well. I then tried to
just upload the data to our G3 server, but couldn't get the IIE modem
software to accept our dial-in number to make a connection. I was
hoping I'd be able to get it to accept our server IP address to
upload this data as I need to get in a usable format.
Any assistance, or thoughts you could provide would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
DRG
