   Unfortunately I think what you are running into is text that is created in
some sort of graphics mode, and not in text mode.   If you run something like
AppleWorks, it should be fine.  If you run a game with text instructions that
are a weird font or size, it will look like what you described.  I wouldn't
call it either a feature or a bug, but that was high tech back then.
