Re: the status of Apple system software & vogon hypocrisy
Ok, I agree with the points made. Like many laws, it seems there
are always conflicting interpretations and/or allowances to
circumvent them.
However, a person could extend these to allow use of another
computers ROM for it's own system. Provided of course the user
of such system owned the computer in which the ROM originated.
This could be very useful for creating a 'new II'. The hardware
could be built as either a kit or assembled, either way it would
be shipped without the actual ROM code but provide a method of
transferring the ROM to the new system. Similar to a Mac clone
board I recall from some article I read. Of course, this clone
makes use of the real ROM chips to avoid legal complications.
In this case, a Flash rom type of system could be used. All that
is required is to supply a minimal boot system which could copy
the code to the rom. Of course, this boot system may be
difficult to design itself.
But I digress. I still like to think of other ways to introduce
a new hardware system to replace the older II hardware as it
deteriorates. :-)
