Re: IIe hard disk setup? - Please help
I see three of these messages, I wasn't sure which to reply to
though. :-)
Seriously though. The hard drive should be setup to boot if
things are working correctly. If you turn on the system and
see a ] prompt automatically, you have booted into an OS. If
on the other hand, you have to press <control>+<reset> the
system can't find a bootable disk.
Assuming that the system is booting the HD, try typing the
command CAT for a directory listing. Normally, Prodos is the
only II OS that can handle a large disk. Some people prefer
using the Prodos Applesoft system, even on the HD.
As for ADT, it only works from the Apple II to a PC. Once the
images are on the PC, an emulator can use them. Likewise, you
can transfer the images back to an Apple II floppy. If you
want to transfer files only, you will need a terminal program
for both the PC and the II. If you must transfer between an
emulator and the Apple, you can use Apple Oasis. It has
properly working serial routines unlike ApplePC, which has
buggy serial routines.
