question re: mac LC //e card...

a friend gave me a working mac lc II with the //e card AND the cable. i
executed the //e icon and got a 40 column apple // screen. my questions are:
does it work just like a //e? any limitations? 
is it prodos only, or can it do 3.3 also?
is it possible to switch back to the finder and do other stuff while the //e
session is running in the background?
can diskette volumes be easily saved to the hard drive?
anything else about it i need to know? 
im sure apple has all of this in their TIL, but its so bloody hard to find
anything in there.
