ProDOS Volume Emulation? (for K12 MECC)
There's a school teacher I know who is about to have their Apple II
lab ripped out and replaced with PCs, but she'd like to still be able
to use the old Apple II software if possible.
All the Apple II software is currently being served over an Apple II
network (competitor to Digicard.. can't remember name) from an Apple
IIgs. I do believe it's a huge compilation of like 300 MECC programs
on a shared ProDOS volume.
It would be nice to make that software available on the new PC
systems. I have used AppleWin 1.10 and I like it a lot, but alas it
only appears to support 5.25" disk images.
I suppose it'd be possible to convert all 300 programs to disk images,
but it seems like a huge mess. And even then, some of the MECC
software may not even fit on one 5.25" disk image, so trying to do
this may "break" some of the larger MECC programs which span huge
amounts of space.
Are there any Apple IIe emulators which are capable of accessing a
"faked ProDOS volume" saved as one big file on a PC?
Are there any Apple IIe emulators which can use 800k 3.5" disk images?
I do know that you could use the UniDisk with the IIe, so it seems
useful to support that format in an emulation.
And as long as I'm asking for things which probably don't exist
anyway, are there any emulations which support compressed disk images?
(Saving so many images at 140k/800k/20meg, whether or not they really
do use that full amount, can quickly eat up lots of disk space.
Emulators which can directly access compressed disk images would
eliminate all that "wasted slack space" of zeroed sectors containing
no data.)
Thanks for your time.
