Some has been hacked.  There are also PRODOS hacks to run DOS3.3 under
Prodos.  I don't know how it works, and I do know that it isn't %100
compatible.

I wouldn't worry about Dos3.3 too much.  It isn't used very much
anymore by most users.

I think you are right about standard DOS 3.3 allowing only 2 drives per
slot.  Certain storage devices map their partitions to different slots,
and some Dos3.3 hacks (for use on 3.5 drives) use:
slot 5,d1
slot 5,d2
slot 5,d3
slot 5,d4

AM dos uses this method.  It still only uses the 2 3.5 drives
connected, but somehow maps half of each disk to a D(rive) number.
