Alltech Electronics is a very good company.  They use 'laptop pulls' as
the drive mechanisms on the Focus drives, I think.  This could be why
you get error $0027.

I think it's an I/O error, don't hold me to it.  If it is an I/O error,
it could be from damaged sections on the disk, a bad format, or
insufficient contact between the drive and the interface card.  Try
pressing the drive closer to the card. (with the power turned off, and
discharge any static you have in you by touching the grounded
powersupply)

I've never got a bootable disk from them either :).  In fact, most
disks (3.5) that I've got from them have been corrupted in some way.
Perhaps they use a Macintosh to make the disks?

The Focus drive is a wonderful product.  It is very fast and reliable
if you have a good drive mechanism.

It sounds like you got a streak of bad luck.  They changed their
ad/prices just as you were ordering, and you got a bad drive.

$79.00 is an EXCELLENT price for BRAND NEW hardware for an old Apple
II!  Think about it.  They aren't mass marketing this stuff because
there is no mass market.  I don't see how they make any money on the
Focus drives at all.  When you finally get a working drive and realize
how much nicer it is to not have to switch those damn 3.5 disks every
10 seconds, you'll realize that it was well worth the price.

I've had good service (all but the damaged disks I've received and
never complained about) every time I've dealt with Alltech.
