3 1/2 drive trouble - help?

I have a relative recent  iie with a 5 1/4 unidisk and a 3 1/2.  The 5.25
works fine but I can't seem to get it to recognise the 3 1/2 I have system
3.1 for it.  I am trying to move files from a mac ultimately to dos 3.3 and
I figure a 3 1/2 inch prodos disk on a iie is a necessary step.

the 3 1/2 inch disk's light goes on, but nothing seems to happen -

In the utilities I get a message that there is no disk 2 at all -

I have two of these 3 1/2 drives and while possible that neither one works,
my guess is something else is wrong.
