Re: Platform for BASIC?
I think, EXEC gets handled by ProDos before the SBASIC
parser gets a chance at it. I doubt there is a way to fix
this. I would also expect Program Writer (Beagle) and many
other editors and/or line editors will have some problems.
I have no idea what a line renumber utility will do to the
code. Well, maybe someone will like it well enough to write
an editor and/or utilities and share them with the rest of us.
As a comparison between SBASIC and ProBasic:
ProBasic is structured by individual modules. Code may run
a little faster since the Applesoft thinks each module is the
actual program while it is executing the code. It will also
let you create disk modules and modules can be reused. It can
include assembly coded modules which are relocatable. Has a
very useful library of existing modules. Basic modules can be
edited with Program Writer or a line editor. I have heard of
a version which supports variables in aux memory, but I have
never seen it.
SBASIC offers structured code for Applesoft. This will help
with porting and/or cleaning up existing programs. In fact it
may be easier to port a basic program to this interpreter as
you can edit the whole thing. It also has some very useful
graphics commands.
Actually, this comparison favors ProBasic. :-) In reality, I
think both would be quite useful depending on the task.
I have yet to test SBASIC with Extra Variables from the Beagle
Archives. If it works ok, then it would certainly be useful
IMHO, as ProBasic can't use this program.
