What do you mean by regular Apple II ram chips ?

I know the feeling. I've been longing for the 2 meg expander for my
RamWorks, but I've
yet to come across one.
I'd imagine it'd be possible to do this, but you'd need to reverse
engineer the expansion
connector on the RamWorks, and without one of the expanders to use as a
guide, this could
be pretty hard.
Nonetheless, if you manage to be successful, I'd be interested in buying
such a device from
you :)
