Self-diag shows RAM problem!

I got an Apple//e for free, the school was giving them away. Bought a
power cord, turned on, used Applesoft BASIC (in ROM), everything was
fine. Then, I added a Unidisk to the I/O card in slot 6. The disk spinned
and read part of a disk before showing a garbled error messege with a
* prompt. I knew it wasn't the disk drive's fault. All bootable disks gave
a similar result. I ran the self-diag thing with solid-apple control-reset.
Colors flashed for a moment, and a messege came up, centered:

         RAM 0 0 0 0 0 0 1 0

What can I do to fix this problem? The RAM IC's are soldered in ...

I just want to be able to save my programs on disk. Using tape is unstable
and difficult.
