IIGS stability problem after RAM upgrade!
Hello!
I have encountered stability problem after upgrading the RAM on my IIGS v.
ROM 01.
GS/OS System 6.0.1 is booted from a preinstalled 340MB Focus Drive
delivered from Altech Inc placed in slot#2,
-> The RAM card is of brand 'AE RAMCARD Plus' with three rows 16 RAM
chips ( 48 chips total).
However, there seems to be some stability problems. After entering the GS/OS
the system crashes within in a few minutes with following diagnosis:
> The mouse-arrow freezes up, forcing cold-reboot as the only options.
> On other occasions the following error msg. is issued: "Detected
trashed memory - software bug, or (less likely) RAM error $0308"
Earlier input from the newsgroup indicates that there may be a DMA-conflict
on the FOCUS drive, and that there may be a switch on the Focos drive, to
shut it off:
--> I've searched my Focus drive, but cannot find any switches at all on the
card itself! The card is marked Computer Circulation Systems" and
][ infitum" A Toshiba brand HD is mounted on the card. No switches can be
seen!
Other information:
-->I do not as yet run an accelerator card on the unit!
--> I tried to downsize the card by removing 1 and 2 rows of chips, but
this did not seem to have any effect on the unstability.
The machine boots but goes into a freeze after 1-2 minutes of operation,
sometimes signalled by a beep.
Any advice appreciated!
