A good place to get some info is the FAQs:
II Computing web site
http://home.swbell.net/rubywand/A2FAQs5MAINHALL.html
Formatted Text on USA2WUG
http://www.grin.net/~cturley/A2.FAQs.and.INFO/CSA2.FAQs/Csa21MAIN1.txt
Pure Text on Ground
ftp://ground.ecn.uiowa.edu/apple2/Faqs/Csa21MAIN1.txt
USENET archives on MIT (and other places around the world)
ftp://rtfm.mit.edu/pub/usenet/news.answers/apple2/faq/part1
The easiest way to get the basic 'starting out' software-- e.g. DOS 3.3,
ProDOS, Copy II+, etc.-- is on disk from a local users' group or via mail. For
the latter, you can try emailing a poster to this newsgroup who lives in your
area and offering to pay postage and material costs to get the diskettes.
