Hi Rich -- I tested the ZipChip for several hours before shipping it out. Unless something happened in transit, it should work fine. If not, send it back and we'll try another.

Something to consider: the socket and one or more pins might not be making good contact. Has your CPU been popped out and reinserted in your motherboard a few times? The Zip's pins might need to be spread oh so gently if the socket has been worn.

If your power supply is old and hasn't been refurbished, you might have to give it the machine a three-fingered salute right after turning it on. Also, after turning the machine off, you may have to wait 20 seconds before turning it back on again -- the Zip cache seems to take forever to clear.
