The so-called religious right (so called because they are originally left wing
or non-participants) is harmless. They can't even agree among themselves. It's
the Left that knows how to organize and run your life.

In my state you don't need the government. You can use deadly force in self
defense or if you witness a fellony assault in progress and come to the aid of
the victim or if "a reasonable person" would feel their life is in danger. The
State has a "shall issue" law that requires the police to issue a concealed
pistol permit to anyone who can pass some simple requirments.

In Vermont you don't even need a permit and have close to total freedom. Nearby
in Massachusetts (Ted Kennedy land) you have to have a permit to OWN a pistol,
rifle, shotgun, BB gun, or air gun.

It varies from state to state. In some you can defend property with deadly
force, as is only proper.
