There's 2 different 800k Apple disk drives that'll work on the Mac plus.
One has no eject button and no daisy chain port at the back for attaching
another drive. This drive won't function on a IIgs. The second has an eject
button and a daisy-chain port and will work on both a Mac plus and a IIgs.
If you're using both 3.5" and 5.25 " drives on your IIgs then the 3.5"
drives have to be connected to the IIgs first with the 5.25" drives connected
to the daisy-chain port on the rear of the 3.5" drives.
Lastly you should check the control panel for the correct slot setting.
While holding down the CONTROL and the Apple key press and release
the ESC key. Open your control panel then open slots. Slot 5 should be
set to Smart Port and StartUp is usually set to Scan. If you do have a
hard drive or other device in slot 7 you could temporarily set StartUp to
Slot 5. This is done using the arrow keys.
That should cover the mechanical part.
If it starts booting off the 3.5" drive and stops then theres other
possibilities.
