I'm not sure what the maximum number of icons that the Finder can
show.  It should be able to show 59 partitions and the trash icon at
the least, though.

You must have a lot of small partitions then.  230 MB divided into 32
MB partitions makes seven 32 MB partitions with one 6 MB partition.
That will only cover a column and a half on the Finder desktop.
