Help: transferring from PC to A2+
Hi everyone here's my problem...if this sounds familiar to anyone
please email me or post to the group, thanks...
I am trying to transfer a *.dmp file of Apple DOS 3.3 from my PC to my
Apple II plus. I am using a null-modem serial cable and am successful
up to the point where the operating system would be running on the
Apple and I can INIT HELLO it to a disk so it can be saved. The
problem is that the OS does not run, it transfers in hex to the Apple's
monitor mode and stays that way. If I hit RETURN, the Apple freezes
up. If I type Ctrl+X, it types out a slash and brings me to a new
monitor line but I can't seem to get the transferred OS to execute.
Is it possible that the code is already executing? In that case how
do I go from the monitor to DOS?
I've shaken and stirred the formula various ways - from 110, 330 and
19200 baud, with or without hardware control, with or without end-of-
line characters, with or without 400 ms end-of-line delay. I tried it
with Hyperterminal, from the command line using 'MODE' and using
Microsoft Works. Always with the same or similar results.
Here's my hardware setup -
Apple II+ with probably 48K RAM (all full but no language card)
Applied Technology Serial Pro card in slot #2, all dips open.
MicroSci drive controller board with '442' on it (jumper says '3.2' in
one position and '3.3&Pascal' in the other)
Two MicroSci model 'A2' 5.25 drives
Zenith Data systems mono monitor, works excellent
GE tape deck, works fine
Toshiba 115CS Satellite notebook PC, 100MHz Pentium, 24M RAM
Is it possible that the '3.3' and '3.2' on my controller card jumper
refers to an OS that is already on the board in ROM? Or is that to
configure to use a particular OS on disk? Someone very nice sent me
ProDOS on a disk and the machine reported back 'UNABLE TO EXECUTE
BASIC SYSTEM'. I was also sent another disk that reported
a 'RELOCATION / CONFIGURATION ERROR'. I had a 3.3 disk sent to me and
I think by following some other advice I screwed up the 'HELLO' portion
of it and now it just spins endlessly.
Thanks.
