Yep, it's the FWB driver. The Apple formatter checks to see if the drive is
a real Apple drive, if not it will not initialize it. The FWB driver is
interpreted as "non-Apple."

Ways around it:
Patch the Apple formatter. This can be done with resedit, or by running a
patching program. Search the net for the files/details.

Find and download the A/UX  (Apple Unix) formatter. It works with non-Apple
drives.

Use a 3rd party formatter such as FWB or DiskManager Mac. Formatting the
drive with DiskManager Mac wipes the FWB driver, and then if it's an Apple
hard disk, the Apple software will work again.

Somewhere out there, there's a copy of APS Powertools, a pretty good 3rd
party formatter. Get thee to a good search engine, brother.
