If one wants to go faster, and perhaps up to 16MHz, a 32k cache board, new SRAMs
and a new EPROM is required, boosting the cost of the upgrade to about $100.00
for all components desired. Of course 16MHz is the fastest I've heard anyone run
a TWGS reliably, but there's no guarantee that it will work that fast on all. I think
14 and maybe 15MHz is the probable max limit.
Of course there are other advantages of the 32k cache. About 10 years ago I did
some tests on an 8k and 32k version of a TWGS and had noticed respectable
speed increases.
I leave it to those who want to participate in the buy to decide how much they
want to boost their TWGS.
As for Zip GS users, all they need is the new CPU and oscillator, and SRAMs if they
want it. I've never owned a Zip, but from what I've been able to determine the
SRAMs are on board and the modifications required aren't as drastic.
