In that case Earthlink support was correct, they don't offer customers
a shell account. To connect using PPP with an Apple IIGS you need
marinetti. It would be a tall order to expect their support to know
anything other than Macs and PC's, realistically speaking. Earthlink
has a couple of million customers and you could probably count
the A2/marinetti users on one hand.

To O.P:  If you explain what you are trying to do instead of asking
in little bits and pieces it would be easier (and quicker) to get the
answer you are seeking.
