I find it so much easier and much more convenient to use lynx to
download, instead of using ftp.
In order to successfully download from Apple II ftp sites using lynx from
your ISP's Unix shell, you need to make sure that lynx knows to download
ShrinkIt archives as an 8-bit binary.
To do that, save the following to your shell account's main directory, with
a file name of ".mime.types" (without the quotation marks):
application/x-Shrinkit shk SHK sdk SDK
application/x-BinaryII bny BNY bqy BQY bxy BXY
That's really all that's need to make lynx operate like a user-friendly
ftp client. Try it; it's just so much more convenient than using ftp, IMHO.
