While I agree with you on the 51 name limit. It really isn't that
hard to modify a disk to hold more file names. I have done this
before, just for fun. Primarily, you want to extend the directory
blocks. What I did was to extend the blocks from #3 then the last
block linked to #4. Of course, you will need to format the block's
data into something Prodos can read.

Yes there may be some utilities that would have trouble, the same
as with QFIX. This is because the try and trap low-level errors
instead of letting the kernel trap the errors. The Atree program
I released a while back should work quite well with any size
volume directory as well as Qfix names as it lets Prodos decide
what's legal or not.
