There is a product that is used for repairing windshields that may work for this.
I don't know what it's called off the top of my head, an auto glass store could
probably help there. As Raymond pointed out, I also think that this would leave a
shiney spot on the monitor, so you would most likely have to treat the entire
surface to get a uniform look across the screen. There may be some type of
anti-glare treatment that could then be applied to the surface after polishing. I
may be wrong about this, but isn't there a spray on anti-glare treatment that is
used on the glass in picture frames? I'm not suggesting that would be safe to use
on a monitor, I'm just theorizing.
Personally, I could live with a one inch scratch. :-)
