Older Mac drives would not be able to handle 1.44MB diskettes.
Don't know about reading MS-DOS 720kB diskettes. It does not seem
likely on an old Mac.
A pretty reliable way to transfer files downloaded to a PC is a NULL
modem connection between the PC and Mac. Each computer runs a telecom
program set for Z-modem protocol, 8 Data bits, 1 Stop bit, No Parity; and
set to the same baud rate. Baud rate would be at least 9600. You can
transfer bunches of files fairly quickly this way.
