I asked that question a while ago, and got a great answer: The battery is
visible beside the powersupply on the ROM 3. On the earlier ones, it's under
the powersupply.
So, I went thru a stack of IIgs's at a school junk sale, and ONE had the
visible battery. So now I'm the proud owner of a ROM 3.  So just pop those
tops and look for the battery. While you're in there, look for RAM cards,
scsi cards, Vulcan hard disk/powersupplies, and other interesting stuff.
