The problem is a filler would make things worse, since you could never get it
perfectly smooth in the scratch.  Rather the scratch would have to be filled,
then polished.  This is done for gems.

However, this would be extremely dangerous with a CRT.  Remember, the CRT is
a vacuum tube, subject to implosion.  The scratch creates a possible weak
point.  Trying to do something about this is definitely too dangerous for
anyone to undertake.

Either find a replacement, or live with the scratch.
