SoftPC is obsolete. Adam should get Virtual PC. SoftPC has
been replaced by SoftWindows 98, but since Adam most
likely has DOS programs (or maybe even Linux programs)
such as games that need to access the low level PC hardware,
Virtual PC is a better bet. Since he already has a PC, he can
install his copy of Windows 95/98 on top of Virtual PC if he
wants. Not a legal problem if he stops using his PC.
I said this before and I say it again, in Windows 95/98 one
program crashing rarely brings down the whole computer.
You hit alt-control-delete and Windows brings up a list of
all the programs that are running. It even identifies a
crashed program by telling you it is not responding so you
know exactly which one to shut down. Simply scroll down
the list of active programs to the frozen one and select
end task. Your other programs are unaffected.
Maybe you are thinking of Windows 3.1. But that's like
making blanket statements about the Mac based on
MacOS 4 or about the IIGS based on ProDOS 16 1.0.
Like the Mac and the IIGS, Windows has improved a lot
since that time.
