Brutal Deluxe's TextEdit modification was to fix a bug where if you
had more that 1023 style changes (font, size, style, etc.) your IIgs
would get messed up (I can't remember what went wrong). This doesn't
actually happen all that often but Spectrum Internet Suite did start
running into it when viewing certain web pages. There is code in SIS
to keep it from using more than 1023 style changes but after Brutal
Deluxe released their fixed TextEdit, Geoff Weiss put out a patch for
SIS to allow it to display pages with more that 1023 style changes.

TextEdit has some of the support already in it for multiple rulers but
it looks like it was never finished. As to why someone doesn't do it,
well, I imagine it is mostly due to the fact that TextEdit works
pretty darn good as it is now so there isn't a lot of motivation to
work on it and besides, most Apple II programmers have other more
interesting projects to work on.

Updating the TextEdit tool set is on my enormous list of things to do
but I have several other projects to finish first.
